GUESS Originals x A$AP Rocky Capsule Collection

Categories:Other Brands

IMAGES: GUESS

If you’re old enough to remember GUESS, you’re definitely old, which was the first thing that came to mind when I laid eyes on the GUESS Originals x A$AP capsule collection. Back then it was all about the sexy GUESS girls and boys in their tightly fitted jeans and almost everyone I knew had a pair. Or two. Along with whatever else they sold which pretty much sold like hotcakes back in the day.

You could say I’m feeling nostalgic (old people tend to do that a lot), but this particular collaboration sure brought back many memories, with the 35-piece vintage-inspired collection promising to have something for everyone. And the one thing that caught my eye? Those GUE$$ tees that come with $$ instead of SS which I think is all A$AP’s doing. Imbued with the vibe of the 80s (or is it the 90s), they are fun, they are colourful and they are definitely gay (and by gay I mean happy). Priced from SGD89 and up, they will be available in Singapore at 3 GUESS boutiques (ION Orchard, Marina Bay Sands and Ngee Ann City) from 8 July 2017.

And while your guess is as good as mine as to whether this will help the brand from sliding further into oblivion, I’m guessing many of you would get a tee (or two) just to take that walk down memory lane (see what I did there?). Because I most definitely am.

LOUIS VUITTON CRUISE 2018 RUNWAY BAG COLLECTION

Straight out of the Miho Museum outside the city of Kyoto, Japan, Nicolas Ghesquiere’s genius floated through the air with his latest Louis Vuitton Cruise 2018 Runway Bag Collection. The collection is nothing but a riveting homage to Japanese culture with which Ghesquiere has fell in love with. Others described it as his open love letter to Japan and this is more than evident with what we’ve seen in the runway.

Featuring unique designs that are suffused and imbued with Japan’s trademarks such as the colorful dresses of kabukis and geishas, the tenacious lifestyle of the samurais, and the cutesy and quirky style of the Kawaii, the bag collection is indeed a pleasant surprise to many. It is in fact a collaboration between Nicolas Ghesquire and Kansai Yamamoto, a world-renowned Japanese designer.

You can see that there are Louis Vuitton’s classics and cult favorites gracing the collection. The Petite Malle, the Speedy and a new flap bag all in Monogram Canvas and Monogram reverse prints are unstoppable with their refined grace, injected with quirky and offbeat designs such as a kabuki taking a peek with her curious eyes, traditional prints of fishermen, and Samurai armors to name a few.

We are also seeing a new bucket bag, which is inspired by traditional Japanese lanterns and several small hot box bags in different sizes, prints, and finish. What could we say? This collection is entirely an amalgam of all things quirky and fun.

Montblanc’s Patron of Art Edition is a fitting tribute to Scipione Borghese

Categories:Other Brands

Every year as part of its endeavor to recognize and promote the contribution of selected art patrons in the world, Montblanc presents them with the prestigious De la Culture Arts Patronage Award. Along with it, a unique Limited Edition writing instrument inspired by the great custodians of yesteryears is also commissioned to them in their honor. This year the iconic pen manufacturer pays tribute to one of the greatest Roman collectors of Art from the 17th century- Scipione Borghese.

The 2017 Patron of Art edition draws inspiration from the legend’s great love for baroque art and his original legacy that lives on even today. Most of Scpione’s collections are displayed at the Villa Borghese in Rome as of today, which in itself is a divine monument of Roman heritage and art. Mesmerizing embossments on the cap and cone of the Patron of Art special edition 4810 fountain pen take inspiration from a Borghese Vase, wherein the top shape of the cap crowned with Montlblanc’s signature black and white and a precious resin is reminiscent of the cardinal’s hat, with the cone being motivated by the ancient coins featuring the cardinal’s face. Further, the Au 750 solid gold ruthenium-coated nib of the pen is enriched with an engraving of the Borghese family coat of arms.

On equivalent lines, the Scipione Borghese Limited Edition 888 recalls the artistry of the lavish Borghese Gallery, whereas the Borghese Limited Edition 89 plays a fitting example of the work that could be seen on a cabinet of curiosities. It’s Au 750 gold barrel is inlaid with lapis lazuli, mammoth ivory, paua shell and fossilized dinosaur bone, much like its muse. Lastly, the Borghese Limited Edition 3 comes with features such as an amber inlay, a skeletonized barrel, an intense red garnet at the base of the cone and a diamond encrusted cap top with a branch like clip, all reminiscent of the precious Baroque culture.

To compliment this elaborate collection, Montblanc has also created two unique pairs of limited edition cufflinks – one displaying a red gold and amber design with an onyx pearl and the other showcasing ancient silver coins framed in a red gold frame. For those fancying a purchase, the Montblanc Patron of Art Edition – Homage to Scipione Borghese is available in Montblanc boutiques worldwide
